A Case of Pinealoblastoma

Abstract

|
Neoplasms of the pineal gland are collectively rare, comprising from 0.4 to 1% of all intracranial tumors, among them the number of pinealoblastoma is extremely small. A case of pinealoblastoma is reported.
A 25-year old female with headache, Parinaud¢¥s syndrome and voiding disturbance of 1 month¢¥s duration is presented.
Neurological findings were the bilateral papilledemas and ¢¥the bilateral pareses of upward gaze.
Vertebral angiography, Conray ventriculography and C-T brain scan revealed a posterior 3rd ventricle tumor.
Through the right occipital approach a soft pinkish-grey mass on the pineal region was detected, and biopsy was done. At the same time ventriculoperitoneal shunt was applied.
The pathological finding of the specimen was pinealoblastoma.
The patient underwent the radiation therapy with good result.
